Thank you to the Friends of the Park who raised tens of thousands of dollars for new playground equipment for Riverside park. In a short time through bake sales, donations and other fund raisers the Riverside park was given a whole new look!

The Antwerp Park Association plants flowers and lays mulch in our park every year -- they are looking for individuals to divide and share perennial flowers with the Park! Contact Karen Lee for details.

History of Riverside Park

The village of Antwerp purchased the "Grove" in 1888, though negotiations with Judge O.S. Latty began in 1886. On February 7th 1936, the Village acquired the addition to Riverside Park known as the Island. This purchase acquired a splendid north entrance to the park and also a large tract of land lying along the Maumee river.

Another bit of information regarding the park was that on November 6th 1892, council was handed a petition signed by 127 citizens in which they deplored the fact that council had 40 acres in mind for the "new" cemetery. The citizens were concerned with dividing the cemetery up, for they wanted to use a portion of Riverside park. Luckily council came together as a group to use excellent judgement in purchasing the 40 acres which is still in use as our cemetery.
